Who gets You?

I noticed the Twestival when @ijustine posted a video on how to raise money and awareness for Charity: Water. Through Twitter communities 175+ cities got together around the world for a good cause. I invited my sister to come, she has a Twitter account but doesn’t use it. She doesn’t get why I love it so she went to show support for the cause and get a better understanding of Twitter. She was a trooper for going with me because it was kind of a Geekfest. I was having the best time eva because I felt right at home!

A big kudos to @ChristineMAdolf who planned and set up the Miami Twestival. Including the venue, DJ, raffle prizes, and even had water bottles made as a memento. I ended up winning a prize from the Beach Bug Swimwear store in Miami Beach. More importantly, I met some cool peeps: @FayZ, @gopalo, @vicequeenmaria. Here are some pics of the event, it was a great start to the weekend.

On Saturday night, a friend of mine came into town. She told me she came across my blog but wasn’t sure what it was about. I got to tell her more about affiliate marketing but it is definitely hard to grasp in one conversation. We also got into a talk about social media; when it all started she was a huge MySpace fan. I was explaining to her that just like Facebook did, Twitter will become more mainstream. People already know about it but are still trying to see how or why they want to use it.

This weekend I met some interesting new people. As Affiliate Summit’s slogan says, “Your friends don’t get you, Your family doesn’t get you, We are Affiliate Marketers, We get you.” It is true my friends and family don’t get what I do or why I do it. I can explain it to them but since they don’t live it, it doesn’t make sense to them. My affiliate marketing friends rock but they are scattered around the world. It was refreshing to meet more people that “get me.” Needless to say I look forward to attending similar local events, next up is @BarCampMiami!

If you have events you want me to share on my blog email them to stephanie.lichtenstein@gmail.com.

It is very true now that I attended Twestival I am hearing about all these other events. I am very excited to meet more peeps like us! These groups are going to get as addicting as Twitter itself, yay! Now that you mention Wordcamp I will check it out while at barcamp this weekend. Thanks for sharing your thoughts it is one of the main reasons I enjoy blogging. I am glad you liked! :)

my kids think i play online all day- everyone else thinks i just color on tshirts. it is so nice to find local friends that "get you" i also just recently started connecting with others in the area thanks to Jeannine and Brad Crooks who are also in the industry and live about 20 minutes from me. They're very active in various groups and have invited me to come along and reminded me when things are coming up. It's definitely refreshing.. and now that I am dragging my husband along with me, he is starting to "get me" even more :D

I'm bummed i missed the twestival here in Denver... good for you getting involved! Wordcamp is next for me :D Great post!
