South Florida vs. Central Florida

March 13th, 2009 · Comments · Local, blogging, social media

I was thinking to myself…South Florida is catching up to Central Florida! It’s about time. Why did this even come up in my mind? On Twitter I follow some Orlando friends and I started noticing that their local events and social media organizations are booming. I saw tweets going on about @doterati @orlandotweetup @igniteorlando @izeafest and more involvement. With a community made up of people like @MissyWard @TedMurphy @markkrupinski I think they are doing a fantastic job of putting Central Florida on the map.

A couple months ago, I felt that I didn’t find that in Miami. Well guess what? I was proven wrong. South Florida does have a lot to offer you just have to look for it. We are more spread out and I definitely have to give lots of credit to our Fort Lauderdale peeps. Last night I went to the @SoFlaTweetup put together by @ctiedje in Fort Lauderdale, here are some pics from the tweetup. I have to give props to @SunSentinel for sponsoring. They are realizing that online is where it’s at.

the new @StephARC

Let me tell you this was a great turnout, people from all over South Florida were representing. I was happy to see such a great crowd. During the tweetup they had a raffle to give away an Apple prize. I would link to the winner but she isn’t even on Twitter! @ChristineMAdolf said this could make her want to become a Twitter member. Clearly Christine views things from rose colored glasses. I think I should’ve won the prize. :)

I see a lot of potential and growth for the South Florida community. Miami just hosted @BarCampMiami @FOWA and @WeMedia.Thanks to people that step up and put together events and organizations like @ctiedje @BrianBreslin @alexdc @vicequeenmaria @ChristineMAdolf. For those of you that weren’t there the reason I favour @ctiedje is because he aspires to be the new @StephARC a guy can dream right!
