I’m a pretty big deal

This little light of mine

April 2nd, 2009 · Comments · #AdvertisingTax, affiliate marketing

Whether you are a little state or a big state like California, that doesn’t matter. Getting just one state to say no to the #advertisingtax is enough. The economy of California is a dominant force in the economy of the United States. That is a great place to start. Angel Djambazov made a comment to Lisa Picarille, if we can present to a state that they can make themselves a prime example to help small businesses this could be the selling point we need. Angel always says the best things!

Now Connie Berg said she hasn’t seen anyone concentrating on the little states. Connie is in a small state. Guess what she can do? Connie can let her little light shine. (That was for you since you keep trying to call me Lil Steph). This just in Connie Berg agrees to be the new Karen Garcia…

Just so you everyone knows, yes I have been blogging a lot, but the biggest impact I have made are through a few quick yet tactful emails. First I searched for the emails I needed. I reached out to my local social media community and found the contacts I needed through twitter contacts. I have found email addresses for all the local media this way. From there I sent an email explaining the #advertisingtax and got some responses.

Since I do not know the #advertisingtax in details, I asked Melanie Seery who has a bit more experience to answer questions on the conference call with myself and the reporter. She is more than happy to help and I would be happy to share my email as an example. It was Missy’s idea to ask Melanie and in this way I have been getting support and ideas from many people in the industry. Reach out to others, they will not turn you away. If they cannot help they will recommend someone else who is fit for the task at hand.

The point is with little effort and little expertise I have been able to let my light shine. If you know how to make noise then do it. If you have contacts use them. Create awareness and them from there the rest will fall into place because others like Melanie are willing to help with the other details.

The facebook group also has a lot of resources. One great way to use the facebook group as a resource is to see which states the group members are in. Check out others involved in the group that pertain to your state and contact them. They are in the group because they care and I’m sure they would love to join forces with you.

Below are my thoughts on the Spew podcast 3: Listen in Here.

When mentioning the Lobby Day Recap there are some pointers and news to share. First of all, don’t use technical terms this can confuse others. Usually when talking to people, even family, about affiliate marketing they may not ever fully understand what we do. So what do we focus on? The key thing is grab their attention. Using the letter from LinkShare that shows real life examples is a good way to make others relate. Missy Ward said, “Hit them in their pockets where it hurts.” That I know they will immediately relate to!

Other Recaps of Lobby Day:
Karen Garcia from GTO Management
Trisha Lyn from New Edge Media

Lacking Link Love?
In these recent posts that relate to the #advertisingtax I am only tagging people but not linking to their sites. I do not want to distract from the main point which right now for me is to share resources to raise awareness and fight against the #advertisingtax. If there is a link you feel is missing please feel free to leave it in the comments. If there is a link that you are not sure where to find request it in the comments and I will find it for you. Thanks!
