New York, New Life

It has been over a month since I moved from Miami to New York. Time flies when you are having fun! I must say the city is everything I hoped it would be and more. Upon arriving to New York I saw my tiny new apartment and my six floor walk-up. I barely had time to take the shock in because I was headed straight to Affiliate Summit East!

In my opinion, Affiliate Summit East in New York has been the best East conference yet. The attendance was larger than ever. There were bountiful networking events full of energy. I reconnected with my affiliate marketers and I made some new contacts.

Peter Shankman was the one keynote I decided to attend. He spoke about business techniques and how he started his company. Of course the first step was to gain enough capital. His company, The Geek Factory, was funded by selling t-shirts in Times Square. After the movie Titanic came out he created a shirt saying, “It Sank..Get Over It.” The shirts became a hit and the rest is history.

If you want something bad enough you can find a way to make it happen. Other than that clever ideas or even simple ones can become a success. Nowadays, there are new competitors out there especially online. It is important to have set yourself apart from the rest. I suggest either have something original or become a problem solver. If you know how to create solutions you will never be out of a job.

Peter also introduced us to a little friend called Poken. If you have no heard of pokens, I assure you at your next conference you will see them everywhere. Poken is a digital business card that contains all social media information on it. You connect your poken with another and the information is immediately exchanged.

Here I am with my poken in Times Square representing for @WorldPokenTour:

During Affiliate Summit East, I also had the change to speak on a panel alongside: Lisa Picarille, Trisha Lyn Fawver, Mike Buechele, and Jen Goode. I had the time of my life. When you are speaking about something you know and love the audience vibes off of it. The panel was on how to Get Noticed Fast in the industry. We covered a few tactics that have worked for us and each person had their particular experiences to share. Mike covered the basics in the recent copy of FeedFront Magazine, in case you missed it. Also if you are interested in writing for FeedFront they are now accepting article submissions.

After Affiliate Summit networking and spending time at the booth it was time to come back and settle in. I did not know where to begin. When I got there, there was no AC and no closet. Now I have set up all my decorations and have made this place my own. Not to mention I have calves of steel from those stairs.

Now that I am settled in, there will be some changes coming. I am excited to see what the future in New York brings. For the time being I cannot make any announcements… Soon enough I will be back to share it with you!
