Affiliate Summit Sunday Guide

January 12th, 2010 · Comments · affiliate marketing, affiliate summit, blogging

I hope you took advantage of the early check in on Saturday. If not, the first thing you should do is register and get your badge for the conference. Sunday is where the conference officially begins even though you went to at least two events the next prior. That is okay because Sunday is a more laid back day than Monday and Tuesday.

Here is what Sunday has in store for you. The Meet Market is a more intimate way to get to know merchants and this year they added a section for affiliates. I like this new addition and will definitely be checking it out. Bring your business cards and/or pokens and be ready to network.

What: Meet Market
Affiliate Summit kicks off with an extended session of structured, face to face networking. Merchants will have tables set to meet with affiliates to discuss their affiliate programs and cut deals. Vendors that cater to affiliates and merchants will also have tables to share information about their products and services. Each table is a meeting spot for teaching, learning, closing deals, creating partnerships and finding new opportunities. See who is hosting a table at the Affiliate Summit Meet Market.
When: 12:00pm - 6:00pm
Where: Amazon A-E,Brasilia 4-5 Rio Hotel

The Blogger’s Lounge will also be opening on Sunday. It is being hosted by the lovely Blog Mistress and my friend, HeatherinBC. I will be spending some quality time in the blogger’s lounge each day during the conference. This is because I have a press pass and will be blogging about the sessions I attend as well as the conference experience all together. If you would like me to mention you in my blog please feel free to chat with me and set something up.

What: Blogger’s Lounge
The Blogger’s Lounge is an area reserved for credentialed bloggers/press to grab some desk space, blog, interview, relax and network. Heather Smith will be the BlogMistress of the Affiliate Summit Blogger’s Lounge, where she’ll be acting as liaison between Affiliate Summit and the press and bloggers attending the show.
When: 12:00pm - 6:00pm
Where: Coco, Rio Hotel

Sunday Sessions:

Below are some sessions I will plan on attending if time permits. I also have some that I recommend to others for different reasons. I will explain to you why I think a session is worth attending. At the end of the day, I think it depends on the individual and what they are trying to get out of the conference. If you are into a niche there is sure to be a session that is right for you.

I will also explain which type of pass you need to have in order to attend the session. I will probably pick the sessions mostly based on who the speakers are. I know the industry pretty well and can recommend some fantastic speakers.

This first session covers social media techniques. The reason I may attend this session is because I personally like to keep up with the social media trends that are constantly changing. I also know Andrew Wee and believe he is a top notch blogger. I have also heard great things about Rebecca Kelley and have not had the chance to hear her speak before. 10e20 is a social media marketing company based out of NYC and they attend various conferences as speakers. If you use social media for your business or clients, I suggest attending this session.

For the next two sessions I am torn. I may have to clone myself. I have one of my mentees, Wendy Limauge speaking along with Momma Loxly and Kim Rowley as Mommy Bloggers. Then I have one of my best friends John Carcutt speaking on Monetizing Blogs for Affiliate Marketing. He is an adopted mentee. They are both first timers at Affiliate Summit and speaking. I am proud of them and I love hearing blog panels. So I think in this case it is up to you to decide which makes more sense to your marketing needs. It can be attracting the woman audience of Mommy Bloggers or learning more about SEO and other monetizing techniques for your blog!

To get a better idea on which session you would like to attend. Take a moment to follow these speakers on Twitter. This way you will get a feel of if you would like to hear more from them or even meet them at the conference. Using Twitter prior to the conference and attending their session will increase your chance of building a real connection.

The list of Mommy Bloggers on this panel are real go-getters. Kim Rowley has been in the affiliate marketing game since the beginning and she started off with a blog about her preemie twins. Loxly since the day I met her I knew her as Momma Loxly. If there is anyone that can head up this panel it is her. Wendy is my mentee that I can’t wait to meet. She is way ahead of me before I could email her hello she had already added me on all the social networks you can find. She is on top of her game and will be sure to blow us all away. I think she is a great addition to the Affiliate Summit gang!

Since I know a little more about John Carcutt. I can tell you that he is the real deal when it comes to SEO. He hosts a weekly podcast called SEO101 on Webmaster Radio every Monday. He also has been in the game for a long time calling himself the, “SEO Oldtimer.” I also know TheRealTimJones, BenSpark, and Murray pretty well. They all run unique and very informative blogs that I check out myself. Tim Jones can only be know as TheRealTimJones, he means business. This blog has great business tips and also motivational ideas from an entrepreneur. BenSpark is really Drew Bennett but I can’t help but call him by his blog name and he’s used to responding to it. Ben blogs about photography and is very passionate about it. Murray has hair that you cannot look away from and he has a lively personality to match. This is a great session if you are a blogger and would like to take your blog to another level.

The last session that caught my attention, surprise surprise, also has to do with blogging. I am sorry I can’t help that I love to hear from other bloggers. Kristin Kinsey is an awesome OPM. Tricia Meyer is an affiliate that runs a community site, blogs, and integrates lots of video. CTang is the key lady at the ShareASale network that has loads of affiliate marketing exerience. The reason I like this session is because you get to hear about blogging from three very different sides of the industry. This could very well be the secret sauce you have been missing from your blog!

Not only that but it’s geared towards newbies. If this is your first time attending Affiliate Summit and you want to learn more about affiliate marketing this is a great session to attend. If you are in affiliate marketing but would like to hear some blogging tips, you will also get something out of this session.

Okay now that your head is spinning from all the new ideas and information you got at your sessions it is time to party and more! Sunday night is just warming up for the next couple of days. Since you are getting to know new faces remember to make time to have lunch with someone you find interesting or even invite them to an event if you can.

To get the evening started I am attending the Affiliate Summit Mentor Meetup. I recommend this be a definite meetup to attend if you are in the mentorship program. As a mentee, this is the time to meet many good people and get the rundown on the upcoming events. As a mentor, make sure you are prepared with this information as well as willing to introduce your mentee to as many marketers as possible.

I will be heading up a discussion table. If you would like to speak with me this would be a good table to go to. There will also be other tables with different topics. Some people also hosting discussion tables are as follows these links are to Twitter feel free to follow us: Scott Jangro, Jay Berkowitz, Tricia Meyer, Trisha Lyn Fawver, Lisa Picarille, Lisa Riolo, and myself. We will all be covering conference information and suggestions. We are also open to answering questions regarding the industry if you have any, feel free to bring them. We will either answer them or point you in the right direction. :)

What: Affiliate Summit Mentor Program Meetup
This event is only open to attendees enrolled in the mentorship program.

After you have met and helped your mentees out you have a gap of time. I suggest using this time for eating. I also suggest you plan a couple things to attend with your mentee. Do not just see them there and never see them again for the rest of the conference. I am going to a dinner I was invited to.

I would suggest not going to far away. After you have had your dinner try to freshen up in your room before going to your first event of the night. You can dress casual during the day and throughout most of the conference. I enjoy dressing up a bit at night. I like to be a geek by day and a knockout by night but that’s just me. You will be okay sticking to jeans and a nice top. Try to leave your sneakers in your room.

The first event I am attending is the ShareASale Under the Stars Party. It takes place at each Affiliate Summit usually on Sundays. If you are a part of the ShareASale network or would like to get involved with this network this is the event for you. In order to attend all you need to do is go to the meet market at Table 6 and get a pass from the ShareASale crew.

Since I have worked with the ShareASale network I often have lots of fun at their Summit events. The staff and people that go to this event are a delight and the food is delicious if you get there in time. Last year, they hosted an 80’s themed party and I had some fun with it. This year the theme also seems to be FUN!

Here are some things Brian Littleton CEO of ShareASale postedthat are sure to increase the levels of fun:

* Karaoke
* Wii, darts, and a bunch of other games
* Outdoor areas
* Open Bar
* Pizza, various appetizers, served early.
* Chocolate fountain
* Dress is casual (I veto this)

This year they decided to take things to another level. They are including other participants and sending the proceeds to the Affiliate Summit Charity: the National Breast Cancer Foundation!
